The Kodiak Island Borough School District Family Resource Center is committed to helping children and families in our community thrive. We work with parents, children, teens, guardians, caregivers, and any other member of the community who may be involved with the family. We offer a variety of free services and can help with access to other community services if needed.

Tribal Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families (TANF)

KANA’s TANF program provides financial assistance and support services to eligible families to help with living expenses, and other essential needs. TANF is available to parents or caretakers of Alaska Native/American Indian children residing in Kodiak or one of the outlying villages.

The program empowers families to become self–sufficient so they can support themselves, their children, and their community.

Kodiak Women’s Resource and Crisis Center

The mission of KWRCC is to provide resource and crisis services to the Kodiak Island Community, as well as a safe shelter for victims and their children fleeing Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault.

Independent Living Center

Promoting choice, independence, and quality of life for persons and families living with disabilities.

Anyone of any age with any disability is eligible.

  • Independent Living Sources 
    Provides advocacy and other services assisting individuals to be more independent in their homes and communities.
  • Developmental Disabilities Resource Connection (DDRC)
    Assists individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities to access resources and navigate Alaska’s service system.
  • Low Vision Services Program 
    Provides access to resources and services for persons experiencing significant vision loss or blindness.
  • Assistive Technologies  
    Provides information and access to commonly used assistive technology devices through demonstrations and a short-term loan program so you can try out tools that may work for you.
  • Total Recreation and Independent Living Services (TRAILS)
    Promotes fun, adaptive, and inclusive recreation opportunities for people of all abilities, ages 16 and above.
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)
    Provides information, guidance, and options for long-term services and support.
  • Veterans Options for Independence, Choice, and Empowerment (VOICE) 
    Provides eligible Veterans with a program for in-home care.
